POSITION DESCRIPTION



The Counseling Center at St. Catherine University invites applications for a full-time Mental Health Counselor.

 

This position provides Mental Health Counseling services to assist St. Catherine University Counseling Center in fulfilling its mission of promoting the mental and emotional health of students thereby enabling them to overcome psychological barriers to academic goals and learning. The hours for this position will be spread primarily throughout the academic year (August 15 – June 15) with half time work required over the summer months (June 16 – August 14).

The Counseling Center offers a variety of services to support student mental health, at no cost to students. We provide confidential services including time-limited individual counseling, group counseling, consultations, walk-in crisis counseling, and referrals to community resources.

 

Responsibilities:  

·       Direct services to undergraduate and graduate students including initial psychological assessments, short-term individual therapy, crisis assessment and intervention, and group workshops

·       Indirect services to the campus community including mental health-related consultations, psycho-educational presentations, and other outreach activities

·       Delivery of counseling and psychological services using contemporary practices

·       Working directly with underserved student populations such as Hispanic, Black American, African, Hmong and those who identify as LGBTQIA+ 

·       Effectively communicate both orally and in writing to a wide variety of constituents, including parents, faculty, administrators, and personnel from the medical, psychological and psychiatric field.

 

Required qualifications:

·       Master’s degree in clinical or counseling psychology or similar field  

·       Three years of counseling experience

 

Preferred qualifications:

·       Doctorate degree in clinical counseling or psychology or similar field

·       Licensed or license eligible

·       One year post degree experience in college or university setting

·       Experience in higher education and/or doctoral degrees in counseling or clinical psychology with APA-approved internships
