The person attaining this position will spend 50% of their time in the Athletic Department, providing counseling support focused on the psychological and personal development of our student athletes, and 50%of their time in the Counseling Center serving other members of the MSU student community.

The successful candidate will be able to provide counseling and other clinical services via a holistic approach.  They should also be able to provide psycho-educational programming following NCAA best practice guidelines.The MSU Counseling Center offers a competitive salary and full university benefits including excellent health insurance; life insurance; tuition remission; 22 days of annual leave; 14 holidays and personal and sick days.

ABOUT MORGAN STATE UNIVERSITY

Morgan State University is an Historically Black University in Baltimore, Maryland. Morgan’s mission is to serve a multi-ethnic and multiracial student body of approximately 8000 undergraduate and graduate students. The University offers a comprehensive program of studies at the undergraduate level and degrees in a variety of fields at the master’s and doctoral levels. The University is located in a residential area of Northeast Baltimore.

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Masters degree in counseling from an Accredited Program, licensed as a LCPC in the state of Maryland. 

Minimum of two years experience working in a university or college counseling center.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Provide comprehensive psychological services to Morgan State University undergraduate and graduate students, including athletes

Provide individual, couples, and group counseling

Provide consultation to coaches, and sport medicine staff

Conduct outreach presentations and psycho educational workshops focused on mental health topics for a diverse population

Rotate on call services with other counseling staff

Competently provide tele-therapy services to clients

Must be able to work in a multidisciplinary team environment

Must be able to promote wellness and team building

Provide campus support, as needed during times of campus crisis and a psychological emergency.

Ensure client confidentiality and maintain ethical and legal guidelines as required by the State of Maryland.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

A Doctoral Degree Counseling Psychology or in Clinical Psychology

Aptitude to use Titanium software system competently and an interest in the integration of Technology in Counseling. 

Have three years of working in a university/college counseling center

Have experience working with an ethnically and culturally diverse client population

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Have the ability to work independently and in a team setting

 Demonstrate an interest in addressing the emotional wellness of student athletes in a developmental and performance enhancement capacity.
