The mission of the Counseling Center at Roosevelt University is to facilitate the cognitive, emotional and social development of students to enable them to optimally reach their academic and personal goals. The Counseling Center staff provides a variety of services to help students understand their problems and themselves, achieve satisfying relationships, improve their academic performance, and make effective and satisfying career and life choices.

This is a full-time, exempt position located on the Chicago campus. This position reports to the Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

PhD or Psy.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology.

A minimum of 2 years professional experience as a licensed counselor in a university or college counseling center or comparable experience.

Demonstrated experience in clinical assessment, therapy, crisis management, training, supervision and mentoring, consultation.

Licensed as a Psychologist in the State of Illinois.

Demonstrated experience in clinical assessment, therapy, crisis management, training, supervision and mentoring, consultation.

Previous experience in development and administration of counseling programs.

Previous experience in emergency management and/or behavioral / mental health intervention activities.

Demonstrated skills in organizing and administering a comprehensive health promotion program to meet the needs of a diverse university community.

Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills and attention to detail.

Ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships.

Ability to demonstrate a commitment to service excellence by embodying Roosevelt’s core values, mission, and vision in every aspect of the role working with students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

A positive and professional demeanor is a must.

Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Working Conditions

Normal climate-controlled office environment is provided. Job is largely sedentary, but there is a need to move about the office and buildings frequently. Occasional bending, stooping, lifting, pushing and/or pulling is required (typically less than 10 pounds of weight or pressure). Regular use of desktop computer is required, calling for frequent hand/wrist movement and repetition. Moderate level of stress. Occasional travel within the local or regional setting may be required.

Essential Job Functions

Duty and Responsibility

Management & Administrative Duties:
• Leads a department of doctoral level practicum students who provide individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, clinical training, health care and prevention services, and educational outreach programming
• Manages relationship with off-site counseling partner. Center for Personal Development, including referrals and consultations.

Oversees department’s clinical services and programs.
• Participates in employment, performance management, supervision and training of counseling center staff.
• Leads departmental supervision meetings for consultation and professional development.
• Overseeing the operation of the counseling and psychological services unit including managing the quality of the services provided

• Responsible for the design, implementation, strategic planning, vision and evaluation of comprehensive student counseling services for university students,
• Partners with the Vice President for Student Affairs/ Dean of Students in development and revision of policies, procedures, and publications.
• Quality improvement and programmatic changes
• Responsible for the direct communication of training needs and responsibilities to the academic programs of the externs placed at the university counseling center.
• Will continue to develop and facilitate relationships with training programs in order to best serve the needs of future, and current, externs placed on site.
• Will assist in management of the clinical requests, including increasing appointments at peak times, and assuring case management of those referred to outside resources.
• The Manager will assist in monitoring our data management system, Titanium, staying abreast of updates and staying active in Center for Collegiate Mental Health (CCMH) consortium.

Duty and Responsibility

Outreach and Consultation Duties:
• Will serve as the liaison between the counseling center and all departments and offices within the university.
• Member of Roosevelt committees designated with the responsibility of student safety, which includes, but is not limited to, Students of Concern, Student Affairs Leadership Team (SALT), and The Behavioral Assessment Team (BAT).
• Outreach program development across the university in order to facilitate healthy relationship with campus community partners, and off-site partners within the greater Chicago area
• Will supervise the work of one (1) Peer Advocate who will assist in the development and provision of outreach programs and workshops across campus.
