POSITION DESCRIPTION

  • Provides individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, counseling and wellness workshops and referral services to students.
  • Provides evaluation and/or treatment for emotional concerns for students who are referred or seek advice.
  • Familiarizes the faculty and staff with counseling service policies and procedures, especially those regarding confidentiality, and serves as a liaison with administration and faculty for student development matters.
  • Creates a warm, sincere, and friendly atmosphere in which students feel accepted as individuals with individual needs and are secure in discussing the most difficult problems.
  • Participates in planning opportunities for the student, relating to physical, social and emotional well-being.
  • Provides for substance abuse assessment and education.
  • Develops and monitors the Counseling Services budget.
  • Recruits and hires staff as needed.
  • Serves on committees as necessary.
  • Maintains a current reference bank of available community resources regarding drugs, alcohol, emotional concerns, life skills, etc.  Provides a listing of support services and therapeutic services available in the community.  Refers students to outside agencies as needed.
  • Provides consultation to the faculty and staff regarding emotional concerns, substance abuse issues, and handicapping conditions.
  • Provides statistical information for institutional research and reporting purposes.
  • Develops a program of mental health, wellness, and substance abuse education and promotion.
  • Provides for and/or conducts group work as needed for alcohol, drug concerns, special interests, or personal growth.
  • Provides consultation and training to RAs regarding emotional concerns and other pertinent topics.
  • Serves as Community Liaison regarding substance and prevention issues.
  • Participates in the planning and execution of such events as Orientation, Open House, etc. as appropriate and as directed by the Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Life.
  • Assists with other duties as needed or as assigned by the Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Life.
