The University of Cincinnati Counseling and Psychological Services (UC-CAPS) is looking for qualified individuals to apply for the Clinical Counselor Position and join our energetic, multidisciplinary, culturally-informed collaborative team of mental health professionals.


Essential Function: Under general supervision from a designated administrator, provide direct clinical counseling services to university students. Develop and provide outreach to the university community, and build a supportive community for the academic success and well-being of students. This position will also act as an advisor and coordinator our Peer-to-peer support student organization, Bearcats Support Network (BSN).


We seek candidates who demonstrate a clear interest and commitment to all dimensions of diversity, and whose clinical service, supervision, and outreach are infused with cultural awareness and responsiveness.  We seek candidates who are attuned to the complexities of identity that our students experience, including, but not limited to, race, ethnicity, nationality, class, disability, religion, sexuality, and gender.

Primary Duties:

  • Provide direct counseling services to university students, including intake evaluation, counseling, and emergency management
  • Using best practices and evidence-based research to ensure high quality care for culturally diverse individuals and groups
  • Serving as a resource for equity and inclusion work within UC CAPS and the greater UC community in ongoing outreach efforts
  • Provide consultation to university community concerned about a student
  • Develop and provide outreach to students, faculty, and staff
  • Serve as liaison for counseling center to the university community and community agencies
  • Plan and supervise the practicum of graduate clinical students, residents, or other trainees assigned
  • May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff
  • Participate in training program(s) within the counseling center
  • Develop and coordinates programs within the counseling center
  • Collect data for program coordination
  • Keep abreast of developments in professional field
  • Represent the department on committees
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master's degree with three (3) years clinical counseling experience
  • State of Ohio Professional Clinical Counselor with Supervision designation (PCC-S), or license eligible or as a Professional Counselor and current enrollment in a doctoral program in a counseling field
  • Must be licensed within 6 months of employment

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a college or university counseling center or other academic environment
  • Experience working as an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated commitment, skills and experience in equity and inclusion programming and clinical experience working with traditionally underserved or marginalized populations
