The duties and responsibilities consist of individual and group counseling for students, health promotion and education, crisis assessment and intervention. In addition the psychologist will make appropriate on and off campus referrals and consult with faculty, staff, students, and parents as necessary. Assists and supports Assistant VP, Wellness Center.


  • Knowledge and skills working with both traditional and non-traditional college students
  • Skill and interest in providing campus outreach programming and consultation
  • Expertise in assessment and treatment of anxiety, depression, relational issues Experience in assessment and treatment of trauma, substance abuse, suicidality, non-suicidal self-harm
  • Awareness of and commitment to effective treatment for a multicultural population, including varied races, sexual orientations, genders, and socioeconomic levels
  • Appreciation for the philosophy and functioning of an integrated Wellness Center that includes both health and counseling services
  • Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills; effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to maintain confidentiality
  • Understanding of and commitment to abide by professional standards of practice and code of ethics for counseling or psychology
  • Understanding of telemental health
  • Ability to travel between campuses.
Physical Requirements:
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Fingering, talking, hearing, repetitive motions. Close visual acuity. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Requires physical abilities consistent with a busy office environment on a university campus. Daily work with computers, monitors, copy machines and other office equipment. Should be able to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends. Able to walk/run quickly to all areas on campus in response to emergency calls.

Essential Functions:
  • Provide individual and group psychotherapy as appropriate in person or telemental health
  • Conduct intake interviews and develop treatment plans, including appropriate referrals
  • Provide crisis assessment and intervention
  • Make appropriate referrals on and off campus and conduct necessary follow-up
  • Recruit, interview, and select graduate intern(s)
  • Supervise graduate interns and staff counselors
  • Monitor counselor caseloads
  • Review and modify protocols, as appropriate
  • Plan and implement ongoing education for interns and staff counselors
  • Support implementation of outreach to the university on topics of mental health
  • Work effectively and collaboratively on the staff team of the Wellness Center
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude as a representative of the Wellness Center, on campus and in the larger community
  • Engage in professional development
  • Participate in committees/meetings, such as Student Affairs
  • Provide RA/RD training, as necessary

PhD or PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology, plus three years of experience working in a college or university student counseling center with an understanding of college student issues, developmental theories, and the college environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Maryland licensure required.
