Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)
1. Provide leadership and management for department, including policy and program development and implementation.
2. Administer and coordinate the resources and activities of the CSMHW, including strategic planning, resource allocation, services and evaluation.
3. Provide direct/indirect supervision and leadership for the assistant director, clinical staff, case manager, nurse practitioner, Student Health & Well-being staff, and administrative staff to monitor and ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and legal standards for ethical counseling and case management.
4. Conduct employee evaluations and performance reviews, as needed.
5. Maintain internal and external networks of consultation and referral to enhance the services.
6. Prepare CSMHW budget and write annual reports as required.
7. Schedule and share in the responsibility of “on-call” services to ensure 24-hour crisis/emergency response and effective and timely intervention.
8. Participate on appropriate university committees and provide education to the university community regarding issues such as eating disorders, grief counseling, depression, anxiety, and other mental health related topics.
9. Serve on the Early Intervention Team, the Scholastic Standards Committee, the ADA Committee, and other committees as assigned.
10. Provide leadership, supervision and consultation with partner universities to provide graduate student placements.
11. Hire and oversee any necessary contract positions, such as part-time or temporary counselors.
12. Ensure that all documentation of student records is kept in a confidential manner.
13. Oversee/write grants appropriate for the department.
14. Devote approximately 25% of time to maintaining clinical caseload of individual and group clients.
15.Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)
Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work or closely related field.
Licensed (or license eligible) as a mental health clinician in the state of Michigan at time of hire.
Required Experience (minimum requirements)
Two to five years of clinical and direct supervisory experience in a counseling center.
Experience with crisis/risk management.
Experience effectively managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Experience with assessment and evaluation of services and data-driven decision making.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)
Demonstrated intercultural competence and commitment to enhancement and promotion of diversity and inclusion.
Demonstrated exemplary communication skills, including written, verbal and presentation skills.
Demonstrated teambuilding and conflict resolution skills.
Demonstrated willingness to work in emergency situations and occasionally on evenings and weekends.
Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software, preferably Microsoft Office or Google Suite.
Desirable Education and/or Experience
Doctorate in psychology, counseling, social work or closely related field.
Experience in a leadership role within a university counseling center.
Two or more years of experience working in higher education.
Experience and philosophy compatible with a stepped care service model.
Experience utilizing brief therapy techniques.
Experience organizing and conducting group therapy.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
Familiarity with Titanium or other EMR system.
