POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Counseling Center is part of the MU Student Health and
Well-Being unit, which includes the Counseling Center, Student Health Center,
and Wellness Resource Center. The Center is an APA-accredited doctoral
internship site and serves a multiculturally diverse and international student
community. The Counseling Center focuses on multicultural competence,
affirmation and inclusive excellence, and the staff seeks like-minded
professionals to join a team engaged in the efforts to enhance campus services
to better support all students.
The successful candidate will be a generalist psychologist
who possess specific interests and experience in providing services which
support the mission of an active and inclusive university counseling
center. The Counseling Center is ever evolving as we strive to meet the
growing and changing needs of today’s college students. Anticipated changes include increasing
our staff size, implementing a rapid-access model, and eventually moving into a
shared space housing all three offices within our unit. Inquiries
and applications are encouraged from professionals representative of all
aspects of diversity as well as from persons possessing a range of levels of
professional experience.
Job Duties Include:

Complete culturally competent initial
evaluations to determine appropriate treatment recommendations and manage
referral processes
·
Provide therapeutic interventions including
brief individual and group therapy as well as time limited workshop series to
treat a broad range of presenting psychological concerns and diagnoses
·
Perform crisis and consultation services during
regular business hours that require complex clinical decision making as part of
a crisis team
·
Design and implement outreach and prevention
programming to students and the broader campus community
·
Conduct supervision and training for
post-doctoral residents, doctoral interns in our APA-accredited doctoral
internship, and graduate students in training (as allowed by licensure status)
·
Contribute as a member of the MUCC team to the
development and implementation of goals, philosophies, policies, and procedures
for meeting the psychological needs of the University of Missouri students and
cultivating a culture of well-being on campus. Serve on relevant MUCC and/or
University committees as requested.
In addition to general duties, MUCC staff are encouraged to
assume expertise in specific areas of personal interest including a mode of
service delivery, clinical issue/need, and/or work with a specific identity
group on campus. While candidates should not exclude themselves from
consideration for a position, preference will be given to applicants
demonstrating interest and experience in the following areas:

Racial Trauma
·
Substance use/recovery services
·
Autism spectrum disorders and/or ADHD
·
Complex anxiety including OCD
·
Eating Disorders/body image
The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal,
oral, and written skills; value a multifaced approach involving linked clinical
and training efforts; show a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with
colleagues, campus partners, and student groups; have a commitment to actively
engage in practice with diverse populations (racial/ethnic, LGBTQ+, ability,
gender, SES, and beyond); interpersonal flexibility with a sense of humor; an
awareness of the importance of life balance and a commitment to the importance
of the developmental perspective of counseling services.

About MUCC
The University of Missouri Counseling Center (MUCC) has a long-standing tradition of
excellence. Started as a departmental clinic of the MU Counseling
Psychology Department in the 1960s, the MUCC later moved to the Division of
Student Affairs where it currently resides. The MUCC has over thirty clinicians
including psychologists; licensed masters-level therapists; and trainees
including post-docs, doctoral interns, and advanced Ph.D. students in
counseling and clinical psychology. We are proud to host the second
oldest APA-accredited counseling center doctoral internship in health service
psychology (since 1970) and have trained and employed many national leaders in
the field. While our model and methods have evolved to keep up with
