POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Vassar College Counseling Service is seeking a Staff Therapist. The Counseling Service provides creative and collaborative clinical service in a small, residential, liberal arts college environment. The successful candidate will have demonstrated knowledge, sensitivity and ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and will be skilled in consultation, brief therapy models, group therapy and in providing innovative, inclusive outreach programming. They must be able both to work independently, and cooperatively as a member of a professional team. This position is a full-time position (10 months – August 15- June 15).


Responsibilities
  • Intake and clinical assessment; brief individual psychotherapy; group therapy; case management.
  • Crisis intervention and triage; on-call rotation as back up to off-site on-call service.
  • Consultation with campus and community members.
  • Design and present training programs for students/staff.
  • Supervision of training staff.
  • Outreach programming and coordination.
  • Strong, primary emphasis on innovative service delivery.
  • Some evening and weekend hours should be expected, especially involving crisis intervention and outreach activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Required knowledge, skills and abilities
  • An APA-approved PhD, PsyD, or EdD in clinical or counseling psychology or licensed clinical social worker (LCSW or DSW).
  • Strong generalist clinical skills, including experience assessing and intervening with a wide range of concerns, from everyday stressors to complex mental health challenges.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of equity, inclusion, and the unique mental health needs of historically underrepresented students.
  • Strong commitment to multicultural competence and experience providing culturally responsive care.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Licensed or license-eligible status in New York. Supervision for licensure will be provided if needed.
Candidates with specialized experience in one or more of the following areas are especially encouraged to apply:
  • Providing counseling and support for BIPOC communities
  • LGBTQIA+ mental health and identity development
  • Trauma-informed care, including sexual trauma
  • Substance use and harm reduction approaches
 
COMPENSATION

The starting annual base salary range for this full-time, 10 month position is $53,340-$67,275.

When extending an offer, Vassar College considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, budget, and other market and organizational considerations. The starting salary range represents the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate at the time of posting.
