Job Function This position is a general therapist at the Rosemary Furman Counseling Center, providing assessment, treatment and referral for Barnard students. A member of a team of psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and interns, the AOD Specialist/Staff Psychotherapist provides treatment to students with a range of needs, including substance use concerns. This position guides/supports staff in providing AOD treatment, and partners with the Alcohol and Substance Abuse Program Educator in providing outreach efforts for the campus.

Position Summary InformationEssential Duties SummaryTherapist:
1. Provide individual and group psychotherapy, consultation and referral.
2. Maintain patient records in accordance with regulations and policies.
3. Serve as on-call clinician with weekday, weekend, and back-up duties.
4. Provide crisis intervention services.
5. Select and supervise trainees.
6. Upgrade skills through training and education.
AOD Specialist - Alcohol and Substance Abuse Program
1. Provide individual counseling, assessment and referral services to students with alcohol or drug related diagnoses or struggles, or that of friend, partner, or family member.
2. Coordinate support groups as needed for students in recovery and those with parents with substance issues..
3. Provide consultations to student services administrators, faculty, and family members regarding student substance use.
4. Educate counseling staff about AOD assessment/treatment.
5. Research and evaluate new studies of college substance use issues and disseminate this knowledge.
6. Coordinate administration of the online Alcohol Education and Prevention module for all incoming first year and transfer students (Alcohol Wise).
7. Maintain updated referral sources in NYC and tri-state community for long term treatment of varying levels.
8. Train resident assistants , peer educators, Orientation Leaders and leaders of other student groups on campus in recognizing warning signs of substance problems and how to respond.
9. Maintain utilization data and conduct quality improvement studies as needed.
Knowledge Skills and AbilitiesSpecialty in AOD prevention and treatment
• Excellent clinical and crisis management skills.
• Ability to work with and be sensitive to diverse populations; particular interest in and/or experience working with college-age students
• Ability to effectively address issues of race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity and other identities within the campus community to promote social justice.
• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a counseling service.
• Ability to assess, evaluate and refer students to appropriate resources and referrals
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Required Qualification Summary• PhD or LCSW in clinical social work
• Minimum of three years' experience in clinical work with alcohol and substance abuse.
• Supervision training and experience.
Preferred Qualification Summary• Particular interest in and/or experience working with college-age students
Physical Demands SummaryMust be able to handle episodic high stress in crisis management
