Florida Atlantic University is seeking a psychologist who will be an integral member of the CAPS team and has demonstrated expertise in multicultural issues, the ability to conceptualize client concerns and deliver services that attend to sociocultural contexts, is committed to fostering a professional culture of self-reflection that supports both broad and specific diversity initiatives, leverages the educational and institutional benefits of diversity, and engages all individuals to help them thrive. Successful candidates will be keenly sensitive to issues of gender, culture, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disabilities, religion, socio-economic status, etc., and to be skilled with techniques for counseling students from diverse backgrounds. Our multidisciplinary staff includes counselors, marriage and family therapists, psychologists, and social workers who deliver services that maintain the highest standards of professional and ethical care.

Professional responsibilities include initial assessment and determination of treatment needs; conducting individual, couples, and group psychotherapy with students; conducting crisis interventions; clinical consultation; providing outreach services to the university community; developing liaison relationships across the University; and supervising Masters and Doctoral trainees and post-doctoral residents. Serves as essential personnel and provides assistance in the event of an emergency

 

Clients present to CAPS with a wide variety of mental health concerns. Therefore, we are seeking psychologists with experience treating trauma related to marginalized identity dimensions (BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, deep poverty, as examples), anxiety, depression, suicidality, self-harm, trauma, mania/hypomania, psychosis, substance use issues, adjustment concerns, relationship difficulties, disordered eating, and other common issues facing undergraduate and graduate students.

The FAU CAPS is accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services and the doctoral internship program in health service psychology is accredited by the American Psychological Association.

Workdays and Hours: 

CAPS Hours of Operation:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. (varies) with some evenings and weekends.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology from an accredited college or university, which includes one year of supervised internship experience in professional psychology (APA accredited preferred); and licensure as a psychologist by the State of Florida in accordance with FS Chapter 490 within 6 months of their start date.

 

Strong commitment and experience with diverse individuals and communities, including but not limited to BIPOC students, low-income populations, first-generation students, LGBTQ+ and gender-expansive clients, people with disabilities, other marginalized identities, and individuals at the intersections of these identities.

Demonstrate awareness and value of culturally-responsive mental health practice.

Demonstrate commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

University counseling center experience.

 Knowledge, skills, and interest in working with Autism Spectrum Disorders or Military and Veterans.

 Bilingual (Spanish, French, Creole, Portuguese)

 Licensed 2 years so can serve as primary supervisor for doctoral interns
