Northern Illinois University (NIU) Counseling and Consultation Services (CCS) is seeking qualified
candidates for a full-time, 12-month Assistant Director position. This position provides counseling,
consultation, and outreach services within the scope of CCS operations. The position is also responsible for the administration of the American Psychological Association (APA) accredited doctoral internship program as
well as coordination of the practicum training program. The Assistant Director serves as a member of the
CCS administrative team, collaborating with Director and Associate Director to provide general oversight
for the department.
Northern Illinois University is located in DeKalb, IL, 65 miles west of Chicago and 30-40 miles from many west suburban communities. CCS is accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services (IACS) and we offer an APA accredited doctoral internship program with three internship positions. We also offer a practicum training program for 3-5 students each year. 1. Doctorate in Counseling or Clinical Psychology
2. At least three years of experience providing clinical services
3. Previous experience providing supervision to doctoral interns and/or other psychology trainees
4. Currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Clinical Psychologist in Illinois
5. Experience providing services to diverse clients and a demonstrated commitment to multicultural counseling competencies
6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
1. Experience working in a university counseling center
2. Prior and/or current administrative/coordination responsibilities
The salary range for the Assistant Director position is $86,000-$90,000 and commensurate with
qualifications to meet the position requirements and preferred experience. NIU also offers generous
