Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Located in Rockville, MD at The Universities at Shady Grove (USG).

The Director provides overall leadership and coordination of the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) Center for Counseling and Personal Well-Being (CCPW). This is an exciting opportunity to not only oversee the ongoing viability of the Center for Counseling and Consultation, but to realize the vision of incorporating the USG campus recreation center, and the establishment and development of other well-being services (including nutrition counseling, massage therapy, and spiritual growth).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

  • Master’s in psychology, counseling or a mental health discipline is required
  • Must be a licensed mental health professional in Maryland or licensed in another state and must attain Maryland license within six (6) months of hire.

 

Experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years of post-licensure experience in a college or university counseling center or other relevant setting.
  • 4-5 years of supervisory experience.
  • A successful record of providing clinical services, including work with the emerging adult population, experience with diverse populations including international, minority, and individuals with disabilities.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to establish objectives for the CCPW based on the strategic goals of USG;
  • Skill in identifying problems and analyzing causes;
  • Ability to forge relationships with others (internal and external) in carrying out programs and services for members of the campus community;
  • Knowledge and understanding of cultural and individual differences, and the ability to work successfully with others.
  • Skills as a broad-based generalist mental health provider trained in: (1) methods of observation, assessment, and program evaluation; (2) counseling theory; (3) group interaction, consultation, organizational development, and mediation; (4) advocacy and decision-making skills; (5) remedial, preventive, developmental and crisis intervention approaches; (6) psycho-educational models based on knowledge of the biological, cognitive and social basis of behavior, and (7) cultural and individual differences
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS


Preferences

  • Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology; Clinical Psychology; or Counselor Education
  • 6 or more years of clinical supervisory experience in a clinical setting including supervision of clinical trainees, knowledge and relevant experience in the areas of clinical training and supervision
  • Experience in a university or college counseling center or in a higher education environment.
  • Experience in, and an understanding of, career development and the provision of career counseling services
  • Membership in the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology is desirable.

Additional Certifications:

Must be a licensed mental health professional in Maryland or licensed in another state and must attain Maryland license within six (6) months of hire.
