POSITION PURPOSE:
The Therapist in Residence (TIR) program places professionally trained mental health clinicians into residence halls to increase mental health support for students living in the Residential Learning Communities (RLCs) and for student residential staff: Community Facilitators (CFs), Neighborhood Representatives (NRs), and Assistant Residential Directors (ARDs).
TIRs promote mental health awareness, increase access to mental health services and reduce stigma regarding mental health and other barriers to accessing mental health services. The roles and responsibilities encompass working as a mental health consultant, mental health educator , and a clinical services provider.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
TIRs as Clinical Services Provider
Exercise sound judgment and discretion in working with clients.
Consult with supervisors and colleagues regarding challenging clinical and case management issues.
Work independently with clients in accordance to CAPS protocols and policies
Conduct assessment, short term individual, couple’s, and group therapy for clients.
Provide crisis screening, assessment, and interventions.
Provide triage phone consultation.
Develop customized treatment plans and utilizes interventions that are informed by client's developmental and psycho-social needs, by client's diversity and identities, and by excellent standard of care.
Provide health education related to promoting client self-care and the eight dimensions of wellness.
Uphold client’s rights in accordance with legal and ethical requirements.
Complete required digital clinical documentation and records in accordance with CAPS policy and practices.
Effectively function as a professional clinical member of a multidisciplinary treatment team.
Collaborates with Cowell Center’s Case Manager, as needed.
TIR as Mental Health Consultant for students in RLC and for CFs, ARDs, and NRs
Maintain clinical professionalism in non-clinical settings.
Provide Walk-In consultation appointments in the RLC.
Facilitate support groups for CFs, ARDs, and NRs to support student staff’s mental health.
When appropriate, collaborate with residential leadership teams: Residential Directors, Faculty Directors, Spirituality Facilitators, other university partners and community service providers.
Provide referrals and linkage to on-campus and to off-campus resources.
Provide on-call, after-hours consultation for university partners via a staff rotation.
Complete required digital consultation documentation and records in accordance with CAPS and TIR Program policies and practices.
Outreach Duties
Serves as a liaison to designated campus partners and committees.
Coordinates and provides psycho-educational outreach programming to the university community, such as providing Mental Health First Aid Training and Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR).
.Participates in student and staff events to promote mental health and wellness programs and services.
Normalize the use of mental health resources through increased visibility and engagement with campus residents.
Departmental Duties

Effectively resolves interpersonal conflicts.
Actively and collaboratively, supports the mission, goals, and initiatives of the Cowell Center.
Complies with Cowell Center policies and procedures.
Updates knowledge regarding research, regulations, and relevant issues that impact CAPS and TIR services.
Attend scheduled staff meetings and staff events.
Serve on departmental committees.
Contributes to staff morale and a positive and supportive work environment.
Contributes to Cowell Center’s quality of services.
Participates in the departmental performance review and improvement process.
Participates in evaluation of department policies and practices and offers feedback for improvements.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
As needed, collaborate with and consult with CAPS psychiatry and Student Health Services to ensure whole person care.
Provide advice, consultation, and support in the development, implementation and evaluation of department wide policy.
Remain knowledgeable of best practices in the field of psychology and university counseling centers while staying abreast of the latest trends in the discipline of psychology.
Perform other work-related assignments as assigned and/or required.

Prior college or university counseling experience, preferred.

This is a full-time live-in position. Housing is provided in a one-bedroom apartment within a residence hall. This is a three year fixed term position, pending budget approval after the three years.
