POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position responsibilities:
Psychological Services:

  • Maintains regular office hours for clinical appointments and intakes designed for intercollegiate
    student-athlete population
  • Serves as initial point of referral for mental health services for student-athletes and as a liaison
    to the Counseling Center
  • Serves on the Wellness Committee
  • Assist with initial assessment
  • Develops and/or modifies treatment/performance plans and counsel individual student-
    athletes, charts clinical progress, and provides follow-up care as required
  • Consults with co-treating providers (i.e., psychiatric, trainers, medical, nutrition), for an
    integrated service, as appropriate
  • Maintains confidentiality, professional boundaries, and practices competently, as defined by the
    Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Crisis intervention
  • Attend Counseling center staff meetings and serve on committees
  • Collaborates in Counseling Center efforts to provide services in new and creative ways.
  • Adheres to NCAA and/or agency standards regarding case management, documentation, and parameters of service, including occasional availability for emergency response or outreach during non-traditional hours of operation

Performance enhancement consultation and services:

  • Consults high performance teams, coaching staff, and student-athletes regarding sports
    performance
  • Collaborate on student-athletes develop and provides programming and training for student
    athletes, coaches, and staff
  • Conducts outreach and workshops on performance enhancement
  • Consults and engages with established athletics mental health resilience program.
  • Provides education and training to student athletes and Athletics staff regarding athlete mental
    health
  • Periodically attends sports practices and home events
  • Conduct periodic needs assessments

University Counseling Services has an APA-accredited doctoral internship in health service psychology and a multidisciplinary training program. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in mental health related field required and two years providing mental health services to student athletes in an educational environment. Demonstrated contextual and cultural understanding of elite sport systems and individuals essential. Clinical/prevention experience in the areas of eating disorders/disordered eating, anxiety, depression, and experience providing psychological skills training. Eligibility to be licensed as a psychologist, LCSW, or LPC in the Commonwealth of Virginia within one
year of hire required. The position also requires excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and strong interpersonal skills. A demonstrated commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice, as well as an understanding of and commitment to diversity issues in the delivery services is also required. We seek someone who is collaborative in nature, practices good self-care, and possess the ability to manage a challenging workload while promoting a positive atmosphere and healthy relationships.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 A clinician who has experience working with diverse groups of students and female identified athletes.

 
COMPENSATION

$90,000 - $100,000
