POSITION DESCRIPTION

Suffolk University's Counseling, Health & Wellness Center is seeking an Associate Director/Training Director (AD/TD) to join our dynamic and busy integrated health center. This position sits on the Senior Leadership team for CHW and holds primary responsibility for CHW's psychology training programs and clinical operations functions for counseling services. CHW is an integrated college health center providing counseling, medical, and wellness education services to a diverse population of undergraduate and graduate students in our downtown campus. This is an exciting opportunity to assume leadership of a well-regarded and long-standing APA-accredited Doctoral Internship and associated Practicum Training program. In addition, this position offers additional leadership in counseling operations and administration in a collaborative and supportive team environment.

As the Training Director, this position is responsible for oversight and coordination of all aspects of the Center's APA-accredited Doctoral Internship in Health Service Psychology as well as managerial responsibility via a direct report for CHW's practicum doctoral training program. As the Associate Director, this position is responsible for coordination of key clinical operations functions including the counseling clinical schedule and scheduling with ProtoCall and our Counselor-on-Call service. In addition, the AD/TD contributes to Center-wide leadership initiatives as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and serves in lieu of the Director in the Director's absence. The AD/TD serves on the DEI Team for CHW, a group of CHW staff dedicated to furthering the Center's commitment to equitable and inclusive service delivery to Suffolk diverse undergraduate and graduate student population. The AD/TD also serves in the after-hours Counselor-on-Call rotation, provides direct, culturally inclusive counseling services to students, and engages in outreach and consultation work with campus collaborators.

Successful candidates for this position will have 5-8 years of experience working in higher education with 2+ years of administrative leadership related to clinical training programs and/or clinical counseling operations. Experience providing clinical supervision to doctoral students and a commitment to accredited training programs are required. Successful candidates will also bring a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as the application of social justice and antiracist concepts in clinical and higher education settings. Candidates should also have developed experience and skills in multicultural counseling approaches, self-awareness and reflection and the ability to engage in difficult dialogues.

Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the Training Director for CHW's APA-accredited Doctoral Internship in Health Service Psychology, including oversight of all clinical supervision, selection, training, evaluation, documentation and accreditation responsibilities, including consistent onboarding, training, and consultation to staff providing training and supervision of Interns. This work includes ensuring CHW's Internship Program continues to meet all requirements for accreditation and the preparation of accreditation reports and materials as required by APA.
  • Works collaboratively with the Staff Psychologist/Practicum Coordinator to sustain consistency and efficiency with regard to policies and procedures, supervision assignments for staff, and didactic training elements for the Internship and the Practicum Program at CHW. The AD/TD participates as a supervisor in both training programs as needed.
  • Assists the Director with coordination of key clinical counseling operations functions including management of the clinical schedule in the Electronic Health Record, scheduling counselor-on-call service collaboratively with staff, and coordinating communication and scheduling with ProtoCall Services, a contracted professional mental health after-hours on-call service.
  • Provides short-term psychological counseling services to students in individual, couples and group modalities; psychological assessments, development of short-term treatment plans, urgent care behavioral risk assessments via Center walk-ins and after hours on-call service, and case management and off-campus referrals are components of this work..
  • Provides consultation to faculty, staff and students in order to address student high-risk behaviors and student/community holistic health concerns.
  • Provides psycho-educational and holistic health outreach programs to students, faculty and staff.
  • Maintains timely and thorough client contact documentation compliant with Center policies and procedures, HIPAA and applicable state laws.
  • Provides campus psychological support services as needed during times of campus crises and/or psychological emergencies. Serves in the on-call Counselor-on-Call rotation.
  • Attends Center and Student Affairs Division meetings and professional development programs.
  • Serves in lieu of the Director of Counseling, Health & Wellness in the Director's absence.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Counseling, Health and Wellness.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. from an APA approved Counseling or Clinical Psychology program.
    Completion of an APA-accredited internship.
  • Current license as a psychologist in Massachusetts (or licensed in another state and license-eligible in Massachusetts within 4 months)
  • Five to eight years providing direct clinical supervision and training to doctoral students, including counseling work on a college or university campus; demonstrated leadership, administrative and clinical abilities to provide coordination, supervision and training for pre-doctoral interns.
  • Five to eight post –licensure years of clinical/counseling experience in the field of psychology, including counseling work on a college or university campus.
  • Experience and demonstrated knowledge regarding work with university students from multicultural and diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience addressing an array of psychological crises in a college or university setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement outreach programs.
  • Training and experience in providing short-term psychotherapy, group therapy and crisis response for diverse college and university students.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess and treat students with a broad range of diagnoses.
  • Strong student service orientation.
  • Availability to attend occasional evening or weekend activities and/or provide a program
  • Maintain ethical/professional conduct and interaction with all University community members
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective psychological consultation and leadership to all campus constituents (Center colleagues, faculty, staff and students)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and/or experience in behavioral health care.
  • Interest in the application and integration of social justice in counseling center work
  • Interest and knowledge regarding assessment of university psychological services.
  • Proficiency in a second language.

Additional Information

  • This is a 12 month, full-time salaried position. Due to clinical/campus emergencies or an occasional evening program, the Associate Director/Training Director may work beyond regularly scheduled office hours.
