Overview

Utah State University Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS; https://www.usu.edu/aggiewellness/mental-health) is seeking a Clinical Case Manager (Clinician I or Clinician II). This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in a collegial work environment that values collaboration, inclusion, and trust. This a full-time, benefited, 12-month position on the USU-Logan campus. Clinical supervision will be provided for those working toward a licensure, and various professional development opportunities will be available to all staff.

 

Under general direction and supervision of CAPS Director, the Clinical Case Manager is responsible for running the center's case management program to assist students with complex needs to connect with off-campus resources. Building partnerships with community providers is an important part of their role. Other essential duties include initial triage assessments, crisis assessment and intervention, and outreach programming on mental health and wellbeing. Providing supervision and training is a possibility if desired.

Responsibilities

Case management (50%) – May be adjusted based on other duties (e.g., training/supervision)

  • Facilitate referral for students with complex needs to off-campus mental health care, and provide follow-up to ensure students are successfully connected to resources.
  • Provide ongoing case management to students who need a higher level of care and/or with a higher safety risk.
  • Help students understand their health insurance benefits, provide information about purchasing health insurance, and/or assist Medicare application process.
  • Provide support and consultation for counseling staff requesting assistance with community referrals.
  • Maintain an updated comprehensive referral database for community mental health providers, including an account of current openings and low-fee or sliding scale fee options. Manage USU's Thriving Campus account (mental health provider directory).
  • Provide "bridging" services as needed while students connect to additional support(s).
  • Consult with hospital regarding discharge planning.
  • Maintains appropriate and timely records and documentation of case management referrals.

Triage consultations (15%)– May be adjusted based on other duties (e.g., training/supervision)

  • Provide initial triage consultations to students requesting CAPS services to determine the level of care and facilitate appropriate staffing.
  • Maintains appropriate and timely case notes.

Crisis assessment and intervention (10%)

  • Hold crisis walk-in slots (1 hour per week) to provide crisis assessment and intervention.
  • Hold crisis case management slots (3 hours per week) to provide urgent case management appointments to students who need to be connected to a higher level of care quickly.
  • Maintains appropriate and timely case notes.

Outreach (10%)

  • Develop and maintain partnerships with community agencies to assist student referrals.
  • Develop and maintain liaison relationships with other USU departments to contribute to the wellness of the campus community and to enhance referrals.
  • Participate in CAPS outreach events and provide workshops on mental health topics.

Other administrative duties (15%)

  • Attend staff meetings and professional development meetings.
  • Attend case staffing meetings.
  • Participate in CAPS committee work as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The position will be hired at either Clinician I or Clinician II based on the following qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in a mental health field that prepares graduates for licensure (e.g., social work, mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy) and eligible for licensure in Utah as a mental health provider within 2 years of hire date.
  • Licensed to practice under supervision in Utah (e.g., CSW, CMHC) (For hire as a Clinician I)
  • Experience in case management, crisis assessment/intervention, and triaging

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Skills, knowledge, and experience specifically focused on the needs of students of color, students from indigenous communities, LGBTQIA students, international students, students from diverse religious affiliations, students with disabilities, undocumented students, and/or first-generation college students
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and cultural humility
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., Word, PowerPoint)
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, networking, community, organizational, problem solving, decision-making skills, and a commitment to lifelong learning and personal growth
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Licensed to practice independently in Utah (e.g., LCSW, LMHC, Licensed Psychologist)
  • Experience providing case management or other mental health services to college students
  • Experience working in a university counseling center
