The Counseling Center Clinician position serves students and residents through the provision of individual, couples, and group counseling, outreach presentations, consultation, and crisis response. In addition, the Clinician supports the departments and Office of Academic and Student Affairs’ strategic initiatives to help culturally diverse students and residents succeed. In discharging these duties, the Clinician is expected to be skilled with techniques for counseling students and residents with diverse backgrounds. The position engages with a multidisciplinary team that consists of psychologists, learning specialists, writing specialist, physician, and health professionals to facilitate successful treatment outcomes. Job Duties Outlined:

  • Provide individual, couple, and group counseling via onsite and televisit format.
  • Provide consultation and outreach presentations.
  • Contribute to the department’s strategic initiatives to provide services and programs to a diverse student and resident population.
  • Respond to student and resident crises (after-hour on-call is not required).

  • Master's degree in marriage and family therapy, clinical social work, counseling, clinical psychology, or equivalent.
  • Must be in good standing as LMFT, LCSW, or LPC in Kansas and Missouri or license eligible in those states.

Work Experience:

  • Three or more years of post-license experience providing psychotherapy to adults in outpatient settings.
  • Experience providing brief therapy to individuals, couples and groups.
  • Design and implementation experience of outreach programs and psychoeducational workshops.

Work Experience:

  • Five or more  years of post-license clinical experience providing psychotherapy in adult outpatient settings.
  • Experience providing counseling to university students;
  • Experience providing psychotherapy to BIPOC or LGBTQIA+ individuals


  • Strong clinical and crisis management skills.
  • Ability to work with high acuity students and residents with complex mental health needs.
  • Competence with multicultural mental health services.
  • Strong communication skills.

$70,000-$90,000 with a comprehensive benefits package.  

Coverage begins on day one for health, dental, and vision insurance and includes health expense accounts with generous employer contributions if the employee participates in a qualifying health plan. Paid time off, including vacation and sick, begins accruing upon hire, plus ten paid holidays. One paid discretionary day is available after six months of employment, and paid time off for bereavement, jury duty, military service, and parental leave is available after 12 months of employment.
