MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Possession of a Master's degree in Counseling, Counseling
Psychology or Clinical Psychology or an allied field related to the
practice of mental health counseling from an accredited educational
institution and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional
experience with responsibilities for providing mental health clinical
services/support or any equivalent combination of education and/or
professional work experience which provides the required education,
knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
2. Considerable
working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of
mental health counseling as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the
full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and
methodologies.
3. Considerable working knowledge and
understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations
and theories and systems associated with mental health counseling.

Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems
through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine
the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an
effective, innovative and timely manner.
5. Demonstrated
ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and
accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other
materials.
6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain
effective working relationships with internal and external
organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.

Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, apply word
processing software, and electronic medical record keeping system and
other commonly used software.
8. If applicable, for supervisory
work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities
and projects, and manage employee relations.
9. Current
licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor or Licensed Professional
Counselor in at least one state, Hawai`i license to be obtained within
twelve months of start date and DCCA processing of licensure application
within 6 months of start date.
10. Completion of at least 3,000
hours of post-graduate experience in the practice of mental health
counseling with 100 hours of face-to-face clinical supervision.
11. Demonstrated experience to conduct brief psychotherapy, provide crisis intervention and delivery of group counseling
12.
Demonstrated experience to competently evaluate and intervene with
mental health related concerns in young adults and adults.
13.
Demonstrated experience in providing mental health consultation to
professional and non-professional colleagues as well as parents and
other concerned parties.
14. Evidence of strong skills in
providing outreach on a variety of topics and prevention services
related to the university population.
15. Demonstrated
proficiency in administering and interpreting various assessment results
(e.g., CCAPS, MBTI, SCII) and efficient production of assessment
reports.
16. Demonstrated commitment and strong skills in working
with individuals from diverse backgrounds, particularly those from
underrepresented and/or underserved populations.
17. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of issues related to diversity.
18. Ability to work outside of normal working hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays, as needed.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Minimum of two (2) years of experience working as a fully licensed therapist
2. Evidence of coursework and/or competence in providing career counseling and interpreting career inventories.
3. Demonstrates a working understanding of diversity issues in Hawai`i.
4. Familiarity with traditional underrepresented communities and diverse student populations in Hawai`i.
