ABOUT UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA-TWIN CITIES

About the Department

SCS intentionally engages from an anti-oppressive framework, understanding that racial, social, and cultural identities along with systems have a direct impact on mental and emotional health as well as healing. We are uniquely positioned to support students with marginalized identities due to the flexibility that comes from not working in the medical model or billing of insurance, including building relationships with trusted offices, working with students who might not want their family to know they are accessing services, and holding identity based affinity groups with community partners. Internally we have ongoing meetings dedicated to multicultural case consultation, monthly racial/ethnic affinity and accountability groups, and we are having conversations about social justice and equity work in each of our standing committees as we know this work touches across the center.
