The UW Counseling Center has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Director for Diversity and Campus Partnerships position.
This position administers Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) efforts, the embedded counselor program, and outreach within the Counseling Center, and serves as a member of the Counseling Center leadership team. This position also provides short-term mental health counseling services, psycho-educational outreach to enrolled UW students, and consultation to the campus about student mental health.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership, Administration, and Management
Provide administrative leadership within a large department staffed by licensed mental health professionals providing care to UW students. Serve as direct supervisor for licensed clinicians. Act as Director's designee when appropriate for campus, clinical and emergency coverage.
Lead DEI initiatives in the center, including visioning and implementation, as well as chairing the Cultivating Culture Committee. DEI initiatives include training and accountability within our staff as well as implementing strategies to address the needs of underserved and minoritized students.
Provide vision and coordination for the embedded liaison counselor program. This includes working with liaison units, and developing positions with new partners.
Provide vision and coordination for the center's outreach (programming, website and social media), within the larger context of co-creating a campus climate that promotes mental health.
Provide consultation to campus community regarding students in crisis.
Periodic interactions with press or other public media involving either issues of college student mental health or explanation of University services.
Engage meaningfully with leadership and campus partners at the university and division levels to advise, collaborate, and enhance campus climate
Steer the department in its endeavors to recruit, attract, and retain a diverse staff & trainee classes, in collaboration with the leadership team and engage in the delivery of direct psychotherapy, outreach, consultation, and emergency services to students and consultations to faculty, staff and families.
Develop assessment, evaluation and data management for the embedded liaison program to determine effectiveness and share with liaison units
Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment. Understanding the role of trauma (historical, community, family, and personal) in wellness and recovery is key. Cultural proficiency and expertise working with BIPOC students is required.
Provide Direct Clinical Services
Provide initial/intake assessments, crisis intervention, and short-term individual, group, and couple counseling for enrolled University of Washington students.
Support the mental health of individuals from underrepresented and marginalized communities to promote student retention and graduation.
Provide crisis assessment and intervention when students present in distress.
Outreach
Provide outreach presentations to student groups, classrooms, and others as requested.
To provide professional consultation to UW faculty, staff, family and students regarding student behavior, mental health, and academic challenges to enhance the campus climate for student success.
Training
Participate in training of psychology interns especially around topics related to outreach, diversity, equity and inclusion.
Teach training seminars on topics of expertise and interest.
Duties for all Counseling Center employees
Attend regular counseling center staff meetings and participate in other meetings and duties as appropriate.
Be part of an interdisciplinary team designed to enhance the mental health of UW students, create a healthier and more inclusive campus climate, and to respond to mental health crises. This includes participating in committees or other center projects.
Engage in other duties as assigned.
