Position Details:Summary of Duties: Provide culturally affirming mental health, wellness, and academic counseling services; initial consultations; and crisis assessment and intervention to a diverse graduate and professional student population within the College of Veterinary Medicine. To a lesser degree, this position will also consult with faculty, staff, or student groups regarding wellbeing related issues; provide informational and educational wellbeing programming and activities; and participate as a team member in the planning and implementation of the yearly DVM Student Orientation.
This position is located on the WSU Pullman campus but may be eligible for a hybrid/remote work arrangement when needed.
Required Qualifications:- A Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, or related field and the ability to become independently licensed as a mental health professional in the State of Washington within one (1) year of employment.
- Must have or meet qualifications for licensure in the State of Washington within 6 months of hire.
- Desire to work as part of a team-centered department focused on all aspects of student wellbeing and mental health care.
- Demonstrated ability to working collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to ethical delivery of mental health services (i.e. dual relationships, confidentiality, social media boundaries, mandated reporting).
- Training in Couple and Family Counseling or willingness to obtain such training.
Preferred Qualifications:- A PhD or comparable degree in Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work.
- Independently licensed.
- Three years of counseling experience with university and/or adult populations.
- Training and experience in Couple and Family Counseling.
- Experience with high achieving populations.
- Work as a secondary school counselor or in a university counseling center.
- Experience creating and presenting wellbeing workshops and presentations.
- Experience in grief and bereavement training and counseling.
- Demonstrated understanding of the Human Animal Bond.
- Experience in the career, academic, and interpersonal development of young adults in academia, and in facilitating the development of adaptive coping skills and mindsets in adjusting to major life transitions.
