POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position seeks a generalist clinician with established clinical and outreach experience serving diverse populations. This individual also works to strengthen outreach connections with diversity partners on campus and to provide and/or coordinate training in DEIAB (diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, belonging) to counseling center staff and trainees.


Primary Duties:

  • Provide culturally informed individual and group counseling to students over a broad range of difficulties and diagnoses (55% percent of time spent in direct clinical services).

  • Provide administrative leadership within the center as the Coordinator of Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives, including a) facilitate one DEIAB related staff development project per summer, b) participate on clinical team to consider policies and procedures through a DEIAB lens, c) provide bi-weekly DEI training seminar for trainees, d) coordinate the annual Multicultural Conference.

  • Coordinate with center and campus partners to develop initiatives that support the mental health of underrepresented students.

  • Provide consultation and outreach activities to the university community.

  • Provide clinical supervision to doctoral and/or master’s level mental health trainees.

  • Participate in Division of Student Affairs activities pertinent to student well-being.

  • Collaborate with other departments within the University community that focus on building a diverse and inclusive campus.

  • Participate in national/regional professional organizations for on-going professional development.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned by leadership.

ABOUT GRAND VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY

The University Counseling Center in the Division of Student Affairs is accredited by IACS and has an APA-accredited doctoral internship in psychology, as well as a clinical master of social work training program. The Center is well integrated within the university and has strong supportive partnerships across campus, with access to excellent student affairs leadership. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Earned doctorate in counseling or clinical psychology, master’s in social work or counseling, or comparable degree.

  • Fully licensed (or eligible) to provide counseling in Michigan by the time of hire (not limited license).

  • Expertise providing psychotherapy services to diverse populations.

  • Experience providing mental health programming for systemically marginalized groups.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with a university population, including psychotherapy, psychoeducational programming and community-based outreach, process-oriented therapy groups, and clinical supervision/training of graduate students.

  • Experience engaging in mental health work informed by DEIAB lived experiences and/or community engagement.

  • Experience developing DEIAB informed policy and procedure.

  • For psychologists, prefer candidates from an APA accredited program and internship.

 
COMPENSATION

$63,000-$81,000, commensurate with experience. Comprehensive benefits package including medical, vision, dental, life insurance, generous employer retirement contributions, wellness resources and tuition waiver effective on date of hire.
