Two Post-Doctoral Fellowship positions are available.

The Post-Doctoral Fellow position promotes the academic, social, and emotional well-being of students by providing intake/assessment, counseling, consultation, psychoeducation, outreach, urgent care intervention, and related services through the university’s Center for Well-Being. The Post-Doctoral Fellow provides training and outreach programs to all members of the university community and participates in a variety of training and other professional development activities. The Post-Doctoral Fellow also receives in-depth supervision and training in all aspects of university counseling center work, including clinical services system management, training program management, and facilitation of outreach programming requests. The person in this position adheres to all relevant ethical, legal, and professional standards. The Fellow must register as a Psychology Associate in the District of Columbia prior to beginning their fellowship. This is a one year temporary position.

Minimum qualifications:

Candidates for this position must have a conferred doctorate in Clinical or Counseling Psychology by August 15, 2023. Successful completion of a pre-doctoral psychology internship prior to the position start date is required.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Clinical experience with adolescents and young adults; prior experience in university counseling context
  • Experience with diverse populations including international, minority, and disabled individuals
  • Sophisticated understanding of human development, cultural context, and psychodynamics
  • Experience in assessing and intervening with severe or potentially life-threatening psychological conditions
  • Experience providing interventions to promote healthy emotional growth as well as the amelioration of emotional problems
  • Experience with supervision of clinical trainees
  • Knowledge and familiarity with American University and its counseling functions

$50,000 plus benefits.
