The staff psychologist provides direct clinical services, The staff psychologist provides direct clinical services, supervises trainees, plans and delivers outreach, and consults with staff and faculty. S/he participates in overall mission of promoting healthy psychological development for IIT students. This position also will have a special emphasis on coordinating our outreach program, with mentoring and support from the Clinical Coordinator. The primary focus of this position is the provision of direct clinical services including intake assessments, crisis/triage assessments, referrals, and individual and group sessions. Administrative roles and special projects may also be required depending on the needs Student Health and Wellness Center. This position may involve weekend and evening duties including carrying an on-call pager that is rotated among staff.

This job requires excellent written and verbal communication. This will include the ability to write case notes and intake reports within professional standards. Verbal communication will also be central in providing psychotherapy to IIT students. This job will involve communication with IIT students, staff, faculty and with the parents of students.

This position involves providing clinical services to IIT students, and consultation to staff, faculty and the parents of students.

This position involves occasional weekend and evening hours for outreach and clinical coverage. This position will also carry an on call pager that is rotated among staff. A pager is rotated among staff for 24 hour crisis consultation services to staff and faculty who may be concerned about a student. You may be asked to come to campus outside of business hours to respond to a crisis/consultation. Extended hours or weekend duties are required and will be divided among counseling staff.

Supervision Opportunity

This position involves providing 1 hour per week of direct supervision to 1-2 psychology graduate student externs and 1 hour of group supervision to 4 psychology externs.

  • Provide health education to prevent illness, teach self-help strategies, and increase awareness of potentially unhealthy practices so that students may choose their optimal healthy lifestyles
  • Empower students through education and professional guidance to become self-directed and well-informed consumers of health care services
  • Adhere to established ethical principles and codes of professional practice, including patient confidentiality, privacy, dignity, and informed consent
  • Provide an environment of caring with a non-judgmental approach, maintain an atmosphere of mutual respect, and uphold and protect our patients’ rights in the process of health care delivery
  • Participate in the teaching of psychology externs and collegiate nursing students to stimulate intellectual and clinical excellence in the care of our patients


Doctorate in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA approved graduate program.  Licensed or license eligible - Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical or counseling psychology. Candidates must have completed one year of post-doctoral hours prior to beginning this position. At least one year of experience working in a college counseling center. Or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience and interest in providing intake assessments, crisis assessments and/or meetings with students, crisis consultation to staff, and individual and group therapy. Experience with college counseling or equivalent setting preferred.
