UIC John Marshall Law School, in partnership with Sankofa Psychological Services, is pleased to invite applications for a one-year full-time post-doctoral fellowship in Clinical or Counseling psychology.  The Fellow will provide therapy and assessment services to law students in a vibrant urban setting.  Ideal candidates are expected to be keenly sensitive to issues of gender, culture, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disabilities, socio economic status etc. and to be skilled with techniques for counseling students with diverse backgrounds. 


 


Since its inception in 1899, John Marshall Law School has been a leader in legal education with a “practice ready” approach.  In partnership with Sankofa Psychological Services, a private practice mental health center in Chicago, JMLS offers students counseling for a wide range of issues including stress management, anxiety, executive functioning, depressive disorders, and mental illness.  The focus of treatment is strength-based, insight-oriented, and skill-focused. 


 


The Fellow will provide a range of services, including individual therapy, group therapy, wellness workshops, cognitive assessment testing, and psychological/emotional assessment testing.  This one-year fellowship meets criteria for licensure at the doctoral level as a clinical psychologist in Illinois.  Requests for Fellows seeking out-of-state licensure can usually be accommodated.


ABOUT SANKOFA PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES, LLC

Sankofa Psychological Services, LLC, is a mental health treatment center in Chicago providing assessment and therapy to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. We provide a range of mental health services centered around therapy, including counseling services, psychological assessment testing, individual therapy and psychotherapy, and group counseling.

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


-          Completion of a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology by July 1, 2020 (or letter from Director of Training indicating upcoming conferral date)


-          Experience conducting therapy with adults with a variety of presenting issues


-          Experience completing psychological evaluations with adults, including commonly used tests of intellectual functioning, academic achievement, executive functioning, and attention


-          Excellent writing skills, time management skills, and interpersonal communication skills


-          Demonstrated multicultural competence in mental health service provision


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS


-          College counseling experiences preferred


-          Demonstrated strong clinical and crisis management skills


-          Experience facilitating psycho-therapeutic and psycho-educational groups


-          Demonstrated experience with adult assessment tests, including WAIS-IV, WIAT-III, WRAT-IV, CPT-3, D-KEFS, and MMPI-2, among others


-          Graduate from APA accredited PhD or PsyD program strongly preferred


-          Completion of APPIC internship in clinical or counseling psychology, APA internship preferred


 
COMPENSATION


Salary: $40,000

Location: Work in the heart of the Chicago Loop, surrounded by public transportation, close to retail and restaurants, steps from Grant Park and museums. 


Professional development: Take part in a multi-level training experience with students in psychology, counseling, and marriage and family training.  Assist in designing outreach programs and wellness workshops for highly motivated law students.
