POSITION DESCRIPTION

Seeking a full-time board-eligible Adult Psychiatrist for the Division of Student Health, Department of Psychiatry to care for the student body population at USC.

Essential Functions:

80-85% direct patient care: 

·      Provide direct outpatient patient care including collaborative evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders for USC students.

·      Facilitation of higher level of care referrals and hospitalizations when needed.  

·      Support medication treatment with brief supportive therapy and motivational interviewing when indicated, with the provider’s role and expertise primarily relating to the biological treatment of the student.  

·      Covers on-call emergencies, as assigned. 

15-20% administrative duties: 

·      Attend weekly multidisciplinary staff meetings. 

·      Provide professional consultation to Student Affairs, academic, professional and department advisors, and to staff of other campus departments on mental health issues and emergencies. 

·      Collaborate and consult with counseling providers (especially with high-risk students) and with primary care medical providers who may also provide psychiatric medication management to students.   

·      Attend and contribute to monthly departmental meetings, fostering educational objectives and a consultative collegial environment.  

·      Participate in yearly peer review, quality improvement activities and other unit, departmental, and division teams and committees.  

·      Provide teaching and supervision to pre-doctoral psychology interns and USC medical students.

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

·      An advanced practice clinician possessing well-developed clinical and psychopharmacological skills and the willingness to support the development of evidence-based clinical guidelines for student health patients.  

·      Effectively works in a highly diverse and multicultural student population and LGBTQ affirmative environment.

·      Interest and skill in an integrated approach to care. 

·      Must be State of California Licensed Physician and a board certified (preferred) or board eligible psychiatrist.

Competitive with excellent benefits. This is a faculty position in the Division of Student Mental Health in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.
