Gettysburg College seeks a licensed or pre-licensed mental health practitioner to provide clinical services and educational outreach to our diverse undergraduate community. The role requires enthusiasm for working with college students, a commitment to holistic student well-being, and openness to innovative support approaches.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Counseling and Wellness, you’ll join a team of four clinicians, a wellness coordinator, and a consulting psychiatrist. The ideal candidate uses strengths-based and trauma-informed practices, demonstrates strong organizational skills, and communicates effectively.

Clinicians provide intake, evaluation, and treatment services to student clients, plus consultation, crisis intervention, on-call coverage, and campus outreach. Candidates must have experience with and a strong working knowledge in a wide variety of mental health conditions, evidence-based practices, and college student mental health.

This full-time, 10-month position (August 1 – May 31) requires in-person work with some evening and weekend hours, including on-call rotation responsibilities.

Job Duties
 
Direct Student Support 
  • Clinical Services: Conduct intake assessments, evaluations, and provide short-term, goal-focused individual and group therapy.
  • Treatment Planning: Develop, regularly assess and update client treatment plans
  • Case management: Coordination of hospitalizations and determinations about wellness leave of absences.  Maintain communication and collaboration with campus partners, families and community providers. Facilitate psychiatric and community care referrals.
  • Crisis Response: Respond, assess, and manage student crisis situations.  Participate in on-call rotation.  
 
Education and Outreach
  • Offer consultations for students, staff, faculty and parents regarding mental health concerns.
  • Provide education and training for campus community (employees and students) about mental health issues.
  • Design and lead campus outreach programs related to awareness raising, prevention and access to resources. 
 
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Clinical Note-Taking: Maintaining  up-to-date, complete clinical notes and treatment plans.
  • Utilize electronic health record for timely documentation. 
  • Collaborative Care: Work closely with the Director and clinical team to ensure comprehensive, high-quality services.

Gettysburg College is a highly selective, residential undergraduate liberal arts college, which enrolls approximately 2,200 students.  

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education/Experience/Licensing:
  • Masters or Doctorate degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related mental health field.
  • Must be licensed in PA or able to obtain PA licensure within 1 year of hire (PhD, PsyD, LPCLCSW).
  • Three-five years’ related work experience treating a wide range of mental health conditions, including crisis intervention.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mental health assessment and treatment modalities.
  • Specialized understanding of college student development and campus mental health issues.
  • Experience with crisis intervention and risk assessment.
  • Must be able to handle a heavy caseload in a demanding environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Training and/or understanding of trauma-informed practices.
  • Experience in treatment of substance use. 
  • Experience working with young adults and with typically under-served populations.
  • Experience with Medicat EHR, Windows operating system, Outlook and Canva.
  • Creativity, flexibility and a sense of humor are preferred.
