POSITION DESCRIPTION

Under general direction and supervision of the Counseling Center Associate Director, the psychology resident:

  • Provides crisis intervention, short-term individual and group counseling to currently enrolled students at University of Washington Bothell and Cascadia College as defined in MOU between University of Washington Bothell and Cascadia College.
  • Provides outreach workshops to students to increase their knowledge, skills, and awareness regarding emotional well-being and mental health. Provides consultation and training workshops for faculty and staff to increase their knowledge and skills to identify distressed students, engage with the student and make effective referrals to the Counseling Center.
  •  Works on-site with occasional remote work during the quarter break.

 

Job duties:

  • Provide short-term individual and group counseling to students on who present with a broad range of mental health issues and diagnoses.
  • Provide risk assessment and crisis intervention.
  • Opportunity to conduct neurodivergent screening to students who have questions about potential ADHD or Autism diagnosis that impede their academic success. Maintain client data and records in accordance with legal and professional standards.
  • Design, market and conduct outreach workshops on mental health-related topics that decrease risk factors and increase emotional wellbeing for the student body. 
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff and students to facilitate training related to identifying distress students, active listening, and making appropriate referral.
  • Provide consultation and guidance to faculty, staff, as well as parents when they have concerns about a student's behavior or emotional well-being.
  • Engage in individual supervision and case conference on weekly basis to consult on clinical and professional development issues.
  • Actively participate in student affairs, wellness activities and other related programs.
  • Stay abreast of legal and practical issues related to the counseling field. Serve and participate on Student Affairs or University of Washington Bothell committees as requested. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Completion of a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) or the degree requirement from an APA-accredited program in counseling or clinical psychology before the position start date.
  • Completion of an APA or APPIC-accredited internship
  • One year of relevant counseling experience with young adults, preferably in a higher-education setting.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Oral and written communication skills commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Demonstrated experience in the accurate interpretation and application of professional standards and all applicable laws and regulations pertaining to the scope of responsibilities and duties.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous counseling center clinical experience using brief counseling models.
  • Strong crisis assessment and intervention skills.
  • Experience in providing therapy to clients who present with a wide range of presenting issues and clinical diagnoses.
  • Experience providing therapy to individuals with a wide range of backgrounds while practicing from a foundation of cultural humility.
  • Experience in designing and delivering effective psycho-educational workshops, outreach, and community intervention.
  • Knowledge and experience making discerning judgments regarding complex ethical issues.
 
COMPENSATION

Annual salary range: $57,600 - 60,000
