Assistant Director for Outreach
Counseling Services at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications to fill a full-time Assistant Director for Outreach position.

SUNY Oswego Counseling Services (CS) offers multi-disciplinary, comprehensive, and diverse services to students that enable them to be more successful in their academic, personal, and career pursuits. CS is IACS accredited and hosts masters-level graduate trainees and counselor education doctoral-level trainees for clinical internships from accredited education programs.

CS's efforts focus on helping students reduce psychological symptoms, cope with life events and developmental tasks, improve interpersonal skills and relationships, and increase self-knowledge and problem-solving ability. CS promotes equity and respect for individual and cultural differences and offers consulting services to the entire University community. CS is part of the Division of Student Affairs, which contributes to and facilitates critical learning and development within healthy, inclusive, and supportive communities.

Reporting to the Director of Counseling Services, the Assistant Director for Outreach (ADO) provides leadership to enhance the outreach and consultation efforts of the department. As a member of the Counseling Services Leadership Team, the ADO oversees strategic planning and assessment activities to optimize and coordinate planning, delivery, and evaluation of outreach and consultation services for a diverse university community; and provides direct clinical services to students. The work of the Assistant Director for Outreach supports the University's mission and vision of comprehensive well-being services for students, as well as the strategic initiatives of the University and the Division of Student Affairs to ensure student success.

Compensation: SL Level: 4; Salary levels, Minimum salary: $75,000, salary offer will be commensurate with experience.

Description of Responsibilities:

As a member of the Counseling Services leadership team, provide leadership for the development and implementation of a strategic vision for Counseling Services' outreach/consultation efforts, in support of the department's mission and goals.
Identify and clarify outreach and consultation goals, identify outcome measures, and monitor the utilization, effectiveness, and value of outreach activities.
Collect and organize evaluations of outreach activities for use by the director or other administrative colleagues overseeing assessment and evaluation of CS.
Provide feedback to staff on performance in outreach services, including providing assessment of staff performance to supervisors for overall staff performance evaluations.
Complete summary reports each semester for the Director on populations served, issues addressed, and highlights/challenges encountered.
Complete annual report on outreach services, including summary of activities, communities served, audiences reached, issues and topics addressed, effectiveness of outreach services, and notable trends of demands and needs, with goals accomplished and challenges/shortcomings noted.
Provide leadership to counseling services staff regarding the range of outreach services, articulating and communicating an outreach/consultation mission statement, outreach philosophy and model/framework, and goals for the overall outreach unit.
Assess team members, including strengths and growth-areas, to identify needed professional development and resources that can support CS' outreach goals.
Convene, supervise, and facilitate the Campus Outreach Peer Educators (COPE) program and interns, with guidance from the Director and in collaboration with university partners (Director of Health Services, Assistant Dean of Students for Alcohol and Drug Education, and the Assistant Dean of Students for Student Well-being); coordinate peer educator team roles, assignments and events to meet university outreach needs; co-teach the COPE course and annually review and revise the curriculum to be consistent with best practice and college health and wellness trends.
Serve as the Counseling Services representative working with the Student Health Advisory Council (SHAC) in partnership with Health Services.

Coordinate, in collaboration with the Leadership Team, outreach programming such as:

New Student Orientation or other events related to educating students, family members, faculty, and staff about counseling services.
Tabling events such as health fairs, department resources fairs, mental health awareness initiatives/screening events, etc.
Serve on expert panels at events sponsored by other departments or student organizations.
Meet requests for programs related to mental health, student development, or student life topics,
Program for student cohorts such as students participating in the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), the Summer Bridge Program (Laker Scholars), etc.
Provide psychoeducation on mental health topics, student development, or student life issues, experiential learning workshops on life and coping skills, self-awareness, identity development, and self-management, etc.
Develop coordinated strategies to market CS programs, services, and priorities to the university community including using social media, Laker Life, and the family Facebook page, etc.
Provide training and onboarding experiences to trainees and new staff about outreach and consultation services.
Be an active member of The Association for University and College Counseling Center Outreach, including attending the AUCCCO annual conference, if funds are available.
Provide clinical services, including intake assessments; individual and group counseling/therapy through both in-person and tele-mental health services; crisis intervention; case management; consultation with staff, faculty, families, and students, at a reduced load proportional to other leadership responsibilities. This load is subject to increase by the Director and Associate Director during peak clinical need.
Serve in the on-duty rotation, as necessary.
Provide clinical supervision and training as needed for trainees from multiple disciplines.
Provide consultation to faculty, administrators, families, and community providers about students of concern and campus-wide mental health issues.
Participate in multidisciplinary and leadership team meetings.
Provide clinical supervision of unlicensed staff and interns, and other staff as needed.
As clinical load permits, attend meetings, workshops and training programs that will benefit the university, the Division, the department and/or will promote the professional development of the counselor.
Participate in the routine office/administrative operations of Counseling Services including maintaining up to date clinical records; carrying out pertinent correspondence; and developing and maintaining a cooperative working relationship with department colleagues and other university and community groups.
Provide other clinical/counseling related services and activities as assigned.
Serve on university, division, and department committees as requested.

Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in a mental health related field (clinical or counseling psychology, social work, mental health counseling) from an accredited program.
3 years professional experience providing counseling and therapy in a university/college mental health setting.
Required to have NY State license within 3 months of start date: Independently Licensed in NY or Licensed in another state and license eligible, as an independently licensed mental health provider in New York State.
Demonstrated interest and experience with providing outreach and prevention efforts on college campuses.
Commitment to providing culturally responsive counseling to marginalized and underserved campus communities.
Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse university community of students, faculty, administrators, and families.

Preferred Qualifications:

Doctoral Degree in related field.
NY State LMHC-D, diagnostic privilege.
Experience leading outreach efforts on college campuses.
Excellent administrative, communication, leadership, decision-making skills and the ability to work autonomously within a team atmosphere.
Strong written and verbal communication, organizational skills, and an ability to provide outreach and training to groups of people.
Experience providing risk assessments and crisis intervention.
