POSITION DESCRIPTION

Reporting directly to the Director of Counseling & Psychological Services, this position is to serve as the Associate Director of Clinical Services, holding primary responsibility for development, support, and oversight of clinical systems and programs within CAPS.  This position is also a member of the CAPS Leadership Team, manages personnel, and provides clinical services to students.

The Associate Director of Clinical Services works closely with the Director and leads efforts regarding clinical service delivery, quality improvement, and student satisfaction.  This position ensures that clinical care throughout Counseling & Psychological Services is provided in an efficient, timely, and culturally responsive manner.  This position also consults routinely with CAPS employees on complex clinical issues and student support.  The Associate Director engages in departmental assessment and other research activities, monitors the flow of students, and calibrates systems to accommodate demand, manage risk, and support clinicians.  This position is also the primary point of contact for the Student of Concern committee and generally provides consultation to campus partners in support of students in need of additional resources.

This position also provides personnel supervision, clinical supervision, and mentorship to staff clinicians as needed, and provides individual, couples, and group counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, outreach and prevention education to the campus community, including liaison relationships with Campus Health & Wellbeing and other campus departments. The Associate Director of Clinical Services works collaboratively with other Associate Directors to assume administrative functions whenever the Director is unavailable.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Possession of a Master’s degree in appropriate field and current licensure or eligible for licensure to practice in the State of California as LPCC, LCSW or LMFT with minimum of 5 years of clinical experience post licensure (in any state or province)

OR

  • Possession of doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology and current licensure or eligible for licensure as psychologist in the State of California with a minimum of 5 years of clinical experience post licensure (in any state or province)

Licenses, Certificates, Credentials: 

  • Current independent license that is free of active disciplinary action in any state or province. Licensure in the State of California is required within one year of hire; preference will be given to candidates with current California licensure.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated multicultural competence and ability to provide and lead the delivery of culturally responsive clinical services addressing the mental health needs of historically marginalized and diverse student populations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of FERPA, HIPAA, the California Medical Information Act, and applicable professional ethical standards as they relate to the provision of psychotherapy, confidentiality, and clinical documentation in a university counseling center setting.
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise in brief individual, couples, and group psychotherapy with late adolescent and young adult populations, including the ability to consult with clinicians on complex and high-risk clinical presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively assess, manage, and debrief clinical crisis situations, including hospitalization coordination and risk management within a university counseling environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical program development and management, including the design, implementation, and oversight of clinical systems, quality improvement processes, and service delivery frameworks in a counseling center or comparable mental health setting.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record systems, including clinical documentation standards, data reporting functions, and the application of EHR data to quality improvement and operational decision-making.
 
COMPENSATION

The anticipated hiring range for this role is $125,000 - $150,000 Per Year. Note that the offer is calculated based on the background and relevant years of experience of the individual selected.

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Anticipated Hiring Range referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Classification Range may be broader than what the University anticipates paying for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
