This position is an embedded counselor role within the multicultural center. It administratively reports to the Director of SCS but conducts all work and delivers all services out of the multicultural center.
1. Provide clinical services including: triage, individual, couples, and group counseling and case management.
2. Work collaboratively with other offices on campus to develop and provide a network of supportive services for students.
3. Develop and implement programming, programming, outreach, and liaison to the Multicultural Center and to its constituents, including individual students, registered student organizations, faculty and staff.
4. Participate in other aspects of Student Counseling Services functions, including involvement in after-hours crisis assessment, intervention and management.
5. Participate in other aspects of the Multicultural Center including training, staff meetings, and programs.

SCS is the primary designated mental health service on campus and functions as a comprehensive counseling center for a campus population of just over 20,000 students. The center prides itself on proactive efforts to enhance the mental health of individuals, groups, and the campus community as a whole, and has a longstanding reputation for innovation and excellence in the full range of counseling center functions.
The Multicultural Center (MCC) is a vibrant hub for student connection, community, leadership development, wellness, and engagement at Illinois State University. Through programs, services, and scholarship, the Center creates opportunities for students to thrive academically, personally, and professionally while fostering a strong sense of belonging. Serving thousands of students annually, the MCC supports holistic student success through leadership initiatives, innovative and educational experiences, wellness programming, and community-building opportunities. With over 40 student organizations regularly using the MCC, it is considered a home away from home. The MCC features student organization offices, meeting and event spaces, gathering areas, wellness-focused environments, and a podcast/media studio. Students utilize the Center as a resource, a gathering place, and a community space where they can build connections, access support, participate in programs, and engage with the broader campus community.
1. Master’s Degree or Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, or Marriage and Family Therapy.
2. Eligibility for licensure in Illinois within 12 months of hire date as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC).
3. Demonstrated commitment to one’s own ongoing professional development.
4. Experience and skill in helping clients work on all aspects of their identity.
1. College/university counseling center experience.
2. Licensed as a mental health provider.
3. 2 - 4 years of experience in college student mental health.
4. Experience working collaboratively with colleagues, campus departments, and student groups.
5. Demonstrated commitment to actively engage in practice with the multicultural center’s diverse student populations.
6. Development, implementation, and assessment of programs for student groups.
$5,833 - $6,667 monthly
