The University of Chicago announces an opening for a full-time (benefits-eligible) Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join Student Wellness- Mental Health Services. Student Wellness at UChicago includes a robust Counseling and Psychiatry Clinic with a long tradition of excellence. The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is an integral member of the Mental Health Services multidisciplinary team of clinicians, providing direct routine and emergent psychiatric care to students and consulting with Student Wellness staff. The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner reports to and maintains a collaborative consultation relationship with the Chief Psychiatrist. Candidates must possess an advanced degree from an accredited school/college of nursing and be licensed or license-eligible in the state of Illinois to practice as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree from an accredited school/college.

Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through a combination of education and training in a related job discipline.

Certifications:

Current and/or eligible for State of Illinois licensure/registration required. Eligibility to be privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO). - State of Illinois

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in nursing (or equivalent, if license received prior to July 1, 2001) from an accredited school/college of nursing.
• Master’s degree or higher from an accredited school of nursing appropriate as a Nurse Practitioner and certified in area of specialty.

Experience:

• Two years of clinical experience in area of specialty.
• Experience in a university counseling center or with young adults treating mood, anxiety, and adjustment disorders, and providing couple’s counseling and crisis management.

Certifications:

• Current advanced practice nurse (APN) license in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.
• Current registered nurse (RN) license in the State of Illinois or eligibility to receive by start date.
• Current Board Certification for Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) or eligibility to receive by start date.

Preferred Competencies

• Ability to interview and obtain medical information.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience with prescribing and monitoring psychotropic medications.
• Willingness to enter into written collaborative agreement with a collaborating physician upon hire.
• Comprehensive knowledge of laws and ethical principles related to the practice of psychiatry in a university setting.
• Once licensed and as needed, willingness to apply for a controlled substance license and DEA number.
• Willingness to be privileged and credentialed through UCM Medical Staff Office prior to start date.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical skill.
• Demonstrated experience working with a wide array of presenting problems and an affinity for working in a multidisciplinary team.

COMPENSATION

$120,000-$140,000
