The Staff Psychologist is a member of a close and collaborative team of mental health professionals who provide comprehensive, confidential mental health services to a vibrant community of Wake Forest University-Reynolda Campus undergraduate, graduate, and professional school students. The successful candidate for this position will provide culturally responsive short-term counseling/therapy and crisis intervention to students and consultation and outreach to the WFU community. The University Counseling Center (UCC) is focused on providing equitable and inclusive services to the campus community, particularly to historically underrepresented populations. The UCC is a training site for master’s-level interns, as well as doctoral psychology interns, for whom all staff members serve as supervisors, consultants, and mentors. The University Counseling Center is part of the Health & Wellbeing Team of offices within the Division of Campus Life. The Health & Wellbeing Team is comprised of the University Counseling Center/Safe Office, Deacon Health, and the Office of Wellbeing. The Staff Psychologist works collaboratively both within the Health & Wellbeing team and across other departments as members of the Division of Campus Life to ensure delivery of integrated professional services consistent with the mission and strategic directions of Campus Life.

Wake Forest is located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, a beautiful, mid-sized city centrally located in the Piedmont-Triad region of North Carolina.  Winston-Salem is a family-friendly city with high quality schools, numerous outdoor recreational activities and events, and is known for its vibrant and thriving arts scene.

Winston-Salem residents enjoy close proximity to the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains (1.5 hours) and Atlantic beaches (4 hours), a moderate climate with four distinct seasons, a very reasonable cost of living, and an eclectic variety of restaurants, wine bars, and breweries for dining with friends and family.  Winston-Salem offers many of the amenities of a large city but with the sense of community and quality of life of a smaller town.

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Doctorate in Psychology from an APA-accredited graduate program.

  • Holds a license to practice independently at the doctoral level in North Carolina or another state that would allow for obtaining a license in NC within one year of hire.

  • Knowledge, skill, and ability to provide effective therapeutic methods for clients from a diversity of backgrounds and traditionally underrepresented populations.

  • Credentialed to provide primary clinical supervision to doctoral psychology interns.

  • Knowledge of clinical training program functionality.

  • Knowledge of and ability to use a broad range of psychotherapy and counseling methods within a time-limited scope of service.

  • Knowledge of and ability to use crisis intervention skills.

  • Ability to effectively facilitate workshops, training, and seminars.

  • Ability to use sound clinical judgment and to manage confidential information appropriately.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated efficacy with general workplace technology and electronic health records.

  • Adherence to relevant state and federal laws, UCC policies, and the American Psychological Association ethical codes.

  • Anyone entering a full-time, permanent position at the University Counseling Center/Safe Office is required to obtain an independent, unrestricted license in their discipline (counseling, psychology, social work, etc.) in the state of North Carolina within one year of hire as a condition of employment. Employees must also maintain their independent license status and remain in good standing with their state licensing board as a condition of employment. Failure to comply may jeopardize future employment within the University Counseling Center or Safe Office.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with mental health service provision in a college or university counseling center.

  • Experience providing culturally responsive and developmentally appropriate clinical supervision to master’s and/or doctoral interns or trainees in mental health fields.

  • Desire to collaborate with relevant campus advocates (Safe Office, LGBTQ+ Center, Intercultural Center, Women’s Center, Magnolia Scholars, etc.) to improve mental health service provision.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the dynamics of privilege and oppression and the impact these have on equity, access, and opportunity in higher education/the workplace.
